Dermaplaning

Like other popular skincare treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels, dermaplaning is a exfoliating technique that improves skin texture and appearance of the skin on the face. Dermaplaning is an ideal skincare treatment choice for clients looking for surface level facial exfoliation, painless hair removal, and an overall smoother textured skin.

Benefits of Dermaplaning include:

  • Removal of unwanted peach fuzz (villus hair), for more thorough hair removal clients may waxing one week before or after dermaplaning.
  • removes dead skin cells
  • Reduces the appearance of acne scars
  • Reduces dark spots and superficial wrinkles
  • Decreases extrinsic signs of aging
  • Helps skin absorb topical products, increases ingredient absorption.

Pre-Treatment Client Education:

Avoid Sun Exposure

  • Avoid sun exposure, especially if the client is prone to sunburns for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • If the skin is slightly burnt, we cannot proceed with an exfoliating skin treatment of any type.

Stop Exfoliating

  • Dermaplaning is a highly exfoliating procedure, we advise client's to stop using chemical or a physical exfoliators 3-5 days prior to treatment.
  • If clients use chemical or manual exfoliators at home they are at risk of hypersensitivity, irritation, and redness.

Active Acne Breakout

  • Dermaplaning is not appropriate for skin with high to severe active acne.
  • Any breakouts can be exacerbated by dermaplaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@essenceofmassage.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

yes, you can, depending on the condition and strength of the client's skin. If the client has a thicker epidermis, lots of texture and more tolerant skin, you can combine Dermaplaning with a chemical peel to enhance the effects.

Microdermabrasion is a suitable treatment to combine with Dermaplaning.

The answer is no: cutting the vellus hair at the epidermis cannot change the hair type. The vellus hair will grow back to how it was prior to treatment. When cutting the hair at the skin surface it creates a blunt tip on the hairs, which many people interpret as greater thickness. By cutting the hair off at the surface a blunt tip is created, when that hair falls out a new tapered hair will grow again.

3-4 weeks is ideal between appointments for skin rejuvenation. More frequent appointments may be required depending on he client's needs and goals.
