Prenatal Massage is helpful to alleviate soft tissue aches associated with pregnancy. The baby is growing quickly, and your body may not be able to keep up with adapting to fast changes, resulting in discomfort or pain.
Other than helping with general muscle aches, prenatal massage is also beneficial for improving circulation, sleep, efficacy of your lymphatic system, encouraging the parasympathetic nervous system (which can help balance hormones), loosening up certain muscles for a smoother labour and delivery, reducing sciatic symptoms and leg cramping, and generally reducing anxiety and stress.
Prenatal massage can be received at any time, after birth. Please ensure to ask your doctor/midwife whether massage therapy is right for you, especially if you're experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.
We have 2 treatments available:
Treatment option #1
The most popular treatment includes a bolster that has opening for the belly and breasts so that you can lay comfortably in a face-down position during part or all over the massage.
Treatment option #2
The other treatment would include you laying on your side with one pillow supporting your head and a body pillow to support the rest of your body while you are massaged laying on your side. We also have wedge pillows to prop you up while you lay face up so that your baby is supported, and you are not completely flat on your back.
What is Postnatal Massage?
Postpartum is a type of massage therapy used to aid the body's recovery after birth. This massage can help your aching muscles relax, promote lymphatic drainage and give you time to relax. Postnatal massage is a massage that is received anytime after giving birth up to one year postpartum.
When can a new mom start a postpartum massage?
A new mom can begin to receive a postpartum massage as soon as the day after giving birth! If you had a vaginal birth and there was NO complications the new mom can start her postnatal treatments when she feels comfortable and ready. It is recommended to wait 6-8 weeks if you've had a c-section to allow for your incision to heal before your first postpartum massage. A postpartum massage is slightly different than a typical massage. Instead of using deep targeted pressure points your postpartum massage therapist will use very light pressure and broad strokes. Rather than focusing on a few sore muscles your therapist will perform a full body massage.
